Add 2–5 URLs or pasted text blocks. The tool strips nav/header/footer from HTML, then shows pairwise Jaccard similarity on word shingles, shared longest passages, and an 80%+ near-duplicate flag. Enter URLs or paste main content to compare only the pages you supply — not the whole web.

Duplicate Content Checker: Compare Page Similarity

Two URLs can rank for nothing useful when they say the same thing with different slugs. Marketing calls it "syndication." Search engines call it a pick-one problem. You do not need a lecture on duplicate content theory to fix it on your own site. You need to know which pairs are too similar and what text they share. This guide walks through a practical order: pick candidates, compare body copy, decide consolidate vs differentiate, then wire canonicals or redirects. The matching tool is the Duplicate Content Checker on Scrawl: 2–5 URLs or pasted text blocks, main-body extraction, pairwise similarity, shared passages, and an 80%+ near-duplicate flag. It compares only what you enter , not the web. Start with a short list, not a full crawl Duplicate panic often starts with someone exporting every URL from analytics. That is the wrong first move. Start from: Pairs you already suspect (two service area pages, two SKU variants with the same spec sheet) URLs that swapped positions in Search Console after a template change Drafts from writers that "sound familiar" Put those URLs in the checker. If the list grows past five, run multiple batches grouped by template. Screaming Frog includes near-duplicate detection in its paid licence when you need sitewide coverage. This browser tool is a quick first pass on a handful of pages. What the checker actually compares For URL mode the tool: Fetches each page (initial HTML, no JavaScript rendering) Removes nav, header, footer, scripts, and similar chrome Extracts visible body text from article , main , or body Tokenizes words and builds shingles for Jaccard similarity Surfaces the longest shared word sequences between each pair Paste mode skips the fetch and compares text you supply. Use it when staging is blocked, when you only care about the article field…

What this checker does

Fetches each URL you list (or uses pasted text) and extracts **main body copy** from the HTML response: scripts, nav, header, and footer are stripped before comparison. You get **pairwise similarity percentages** (word shingles with Jaccard overlap), the **longest shared passages**, and a **near-duplicate** label when similarity is 80% or higher.

This compares **only the pages you enter**. It does not crawl your site or search the web for copies.

When to use it

- Two product pages that read too alike after a template rollout - Staging vs live body copy before launch - Pasted drafts from writers who reused paragraphs

[Screaming Frog](https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/) includes near-duplicate detection in its paid licence for full-site crawls. Use this tool for a quick check on a short URL list in the browser.

Limits

2–5 URLs or text blocks per run. Initial HTML only (no JavaScript rendering). Rate limits apply per URL fetch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this tool find duplicate content on the whole web?

No. It only compares the 2–5 URLs or text blocks you provide. It does not crawl your site or search third-party pages.

How is similarity calculated?

Body text is tokenized into word shingles and compared with Jaccard similarity. Pairs at 80% or higher are flagged as near-duplicates.

What HTML is compared?

Main body text after removing nav, header, footer, and script tags from the fetched HTML. External chrome in shared templates can still inflate similarity.

Can I paste text instead of URLs?

Yes. Choose Paste text and add 2–5 blocks. Labels are optional.

Is this the same as Screaming Frog near-duplicate detection?

No. Screaming Frog crawls a site under its paid licence. This tool is a free browser check on a small list you supply.
